Giatec to reduce CO2 emissions with AI supported cement and funding

Canadian smart cement company Giatec intend to make construction sites greener with its artificial intelligence (AI) programme, Roxi, with funding and support from Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC).

In addition to being the most expensive ingredient in a concrete mix, cement production is responsible for 8% of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. With support from SDTC, Giatec will use its proprietary sensing technology combined with their real-time, predictive AI-based model to meet concrete strength targets more accurately.

The technology, which allows ready-mix producers to adjust the amount of cement required, will cut at least 400 million tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions annually, the equivalent of taking 110 million cars off the road.

Commenting on the technology, Pouria Ghods, Co-Founder and CEO, Giatec, said, “Based on two case studies, we estimate that up to 20% reduction in cement usage can be achieved using our technology.”
