Guyana hospital to receive new oxygen generating plant

The Infectious Disease Hospital in Liliendaal, Guyana will soon see delivery of an oxygen generating plant, giving it an independent source of oxygen and helping to reducing costly oxygen purchases.

To be donated by the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) and Sewa Guyana, the plant’s arrival and subsequent operation will help supply oxygen to the Covid-19 hospital in Liliendaal.

Stating that they have been buying expensive oxygen for the 200-bed hospital, Dr. Frank Anthony, Minister of Health, Guyana Government, added, “Once that [the oxygen generating plant] is up and running, it would substantially decrease the cost that we’ll have at the Covid hospital to provide oxygen.”

The plant is to be shipped from India and – using the pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process – will have the capacity to treat 50 patients at any one time with the necessary amount of oxygen required on a 24/7 operating schedule.
