Haven Power changes name to Drax, focuses on climate goals

UK renewable energy supplier Haven Power has changed its name to Drax, according to parent company Drax Group.

First acquired by Drax Group in 2009, the rebrand hopes to support its more-than 20,000 industrial and commercial customers achieve their sustainability goals with a prime focus on carbon emission reduction.

Commenting on the company’s climate goals, Paul Sheffield, Managing Director, Drax’s supply businesses, said, “Drax has an impressive track record in sustainability – we’ve reduced Drax Group’s carbon footprint by more than 90% in less than a decade.”

To achieve the removal of around eight million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere each year by 2030, Drax plans to use bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) at its North Yorkshire power station.
