HeidelbergCement sets focus on CCUS

German company HeidelbergCement reiterated its strategy to focus on carbon capture and utilisation or storage (CCU/S) due to its importance in decarbonising the atmosphere.

Speaking as part of an official delegation’s visit to Norway, Dr. Dominik von Achten, Chairman of the Managing Board, HeidelbergCement, said, “We are excited to be part of this pioneering project together with the Norwegian government. It enables us to further progress on our path towards carbon neutrality, thus reducing the carbon footprint of the building materials industry.”

The statement was made during a roundtable event at classification society DNV where the topic was ‘Energy Transition – From Fossil Fuels to Renewables’.

The Brevik CCS project is part of the Norwegian government-supported Longship programme that backs full-scale CCS. Following capture, the gas will be transported by ship to an onshore terminal on the Norwegian coast before eventually being stored in its liquefied form under the North Sea.
