HELBIO SA, together with METACON AB Sweden and METACON KK Japan, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a leading Japanese chemical engineering company for the supply of complete systems for use in producing hydrogen – for fuelling stations to utilise.
With the rise in the hydrogen sector of the gas being used for fuelling vehicles, like fuel cell cars, in Europe and Asia these complete systems being created in the partnership will be marketed in these areas – with bases in Sweden and Japan, respectively.
The fuel cell cars that are currently being produced, with Toyota set to be the first supplier, require hydrogen of the highest quality and with 99.999% purity. In order to meet the market demand for high-quality facilities for local hydrogen production HELBIO has signed a cooperation agreement with one of the world’s leading manufacturer of gas purification systems.
The gas purification technology followed is the so-called PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption), which is well known and has been used for decades especially in large-scale plants that currently produce high-purity hydrogen from natural gas. HELBIO will also adapt these compact PSA systems with its biogas reformers for cost-effective, local production of hydrogen. The companies will also work together for cost-effective mass production and market establishment of the complete hydrogen plants in various sizes as well as for energy systems with fuel cells.
