Hitachi to start up oxygen plant in India

Having been one of the countries hardest hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, India is taking measures to scale up its medical oxygen preparedness with the deployment of a new oxygen generation plant at a hospital in Delhi.

Developed in partnership with Vimhans Nayati Super Specialty Hospital (VIMHANS), Hitachi, Ltd and Hitachi India Pvt. Ltd has collaborated to set up the 150nm3 capacity facility to ensure citizens are able to immediately access oxygen in the event of a fourth Covid-19 wave. 

The plant, which uses pressure-swing adsorption (PSA) to produce 97% purity medical-grade oxygen, adheres to the government’s vision of building a resilient future, part of which include making hospitals self-sufficient in meeting the oxygen needs of its patients. 

Stating that Hitachi is determined to support India’s population in ‘challenging times’, Bharat Kaushal, Managing Director, Hitachi India, added, “With the likelihood of overall pattern of the coronavirus pandemic we feel the need to support our country by contributing towards further strengthening of the health infrastructure.”
