H&R inaugurates world’s largest dynamic hydrogen electrolysis plant

The world’s largest dynamic hydrogen (H2) electrolysis plant based on Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) technology is being inaugurated in Hamburg-Neuhof.

The €10m project is being developed by H&R Ölwerke Schindler GmbH, a subsidiary of H&R GmbH & Co. KGaA. The plant’s centerpiece, a Siemens-built electrolyser with 5MW of electric capacity, will produce several hundred tonnes of H2 per year.

The specialty-chemicals company said the H2 will not be used to produce energy as usual, but instead will be used as a resource to add value in refinery processes.

By opening the dynamic H2 electrolysis plant at its refinery site in Hamburg-Neuhof, H&R Ölwerke Schindler will be taking a big step toward achieving its “Green Refinery” concept.
