Canada’s first buses that are fuelled partly from hydrogen are now carrying passengers on regular routes through the country.
TransLink, the Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority, is successfully operating two buses on a blend of 20 percent hydrogen and 80 percent compressed natural gas (CNG) after developing the vehicles in a test programme over the past 2 years.
Chair of TransLink Malcolm Brodie said, $quot;We have also been looking at CNG, low-sulphur diesels with particulate filters, bio-diesel, and two types of diesel-electric hybrid.$quot;
TransLink’s latest bus purchases have been a mix of natural gas buses and filtered diesels. Currently, the only other transit system in North America with some hydrogen-powered buses is Palm Springs in California.
