There will be at least a million hydrogen powered vehicles in India by 2020, according to Union New and Renewable Energy minister Vila Muttemvar.
Speaking at the International Bio-fuels Conference in Brussels, Muttemvar announced that a National Hydrogen Energy Road Map had been formulated for the introduction of a hydrogen economy and India is also looking at co-operation in fuel conversion technologies.
Commenting on the bio-fuel scenario in the country, he described bio-fuels as an integral part of India’s National Energy Policy and noted that the effective implementation of the bio-fuel programme would go a long way toward reducing the country’s dependence on oil.
