China’s first independently developed high efficiency hydrogen engine was successfully ignited recently in Chongqing, by the ChangAn Auto co. Ltd, heralding a breakthrough in the progress of China’s technology research.
Laying the foundation for national hydrogen engine industrialisation development, the high efficiency and low discharge engine is a new type of internal combustion machine and, compared to its conventional petrol and diesel counterparts, is low-cost and adaptable.
The leap forward is greatly significant in terms of reducing environmental pollution and responding to the looming energy crisis of the future, which in turn affects the present.
ChangAn began to research the hydrogen engine as early as 2005 and formally attained the establishment of the national ‘863’ plan. After two years of effort, research and development it seems the project has finally produced the successful operation of the hydrogen engine and can now move forward with further advances and developments.
