Indian hydrogen-car project stalls

Following the expiration of a two-year statement of intent in June, a joint fuel cell car development project in India has stalled and dealt a blow to a potential hydrogen infastructure in the country, according to a report by the Hindu Business Line.

The joint venture project between the Reva Electric Car Company and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) appears to have floundered after the IOC failed to renew its interest in the scheme.

Under the initial agreement, two hydrogen fuel cell vehicles were to have been developed and the IOC was scheduled to work on the creation of a hydrogen infastructure to support the cars. The technology was expected to be ready and operational by 2010.

Despite Reva’s apparent continued commitment to the project, the IOC is reported to have decided that the initiative was no longer worth sustaining.
