ITM Power rolls out series of H2 workshops following £2m Government competition

Energy storage and clean fuel company, ITM Power, is rolling out a series of hydrogen (H2) fleet user workshops and events throughout the UK, prompted by the recent government fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) funding scheme.

The Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) launched a FCEV Fleet Support Scheme on the 10th May, which has dedicated a £2m ($2.9m) competition to encourage more businesses to switch to H2-fuelled vehicles and to develop the infrastructure in the UK.

The competition is open to both public sector and individual, private enterprise fleets and will provide supports for vehicles deployed up until 30th April 2017. Under the scheme, the Government will back costs of operating these FCEVs, such as purchasing, leasing, insurance, H2 fuel, fleet management, vehicle servicing and so on, for up to three years.

This funding, along with the growing network of H2 refuelling stations opening in England, will help businesses and the public sector to get on board with this exciting technology

Andrew Jones, the Parliamentary Undersecretary of State for Transport, detailed, “H2 fuel cells are an important part of our vision for almost all cars and vans to be zero-emission by 2050. This funding, along with the growing network of H2 refuelling stations opening in England, will help businesses and the public sector to get on board with this exciting technology.”
