Japan industry promotes CCS in Australia

As part of its ‘Carbon Neutral Initiative’, the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) is to work alongside Mitsui E&P Australia Pty Ltd (MEPAU) to support low carbon hydrogen and ammonia projects through carbon capture and storage (CCS) in Western Australia.

The partners will explore the potential for capturing carbon dioxide generated through the production of low carbon ammonia from the Waitsia gas field and its storage into a nearby depleted gas field.

In addition to researching the effectiveness of CCS in the depleted area, the partners will use their experience and resources to investigate the capability of Waitsia producing low carbon ammonia for export to Japan.
