Keep the customer satisfied: interview with WestAir Gases

More than half a century after it opened its doors as a welding supplies business, WestAir Gases continues to evolve. Christian Annesley spoke to WestAir President Andy Castiglione about his plans

How do independent distributors of gases and equipment stay ahead of the competition in their market and keep their customers happy?

It is a question that exercises Andy Castiglione, President of WestAir Gases & Equipment, every day because it is the foundation on which the 52-year-old company that his grandfather founded is built.

“We feel that competition side here in California a bit more than distributors in some other markets,” he ponders. “California is not really a business-friendly state if you are in hazardous materials and heavy distribution, as we are. And it is an enormous market with lots of big companies, which puts us on a particular footing versus the majors, since they are more active here than some other parts of the country.”
