Leading Sub-Saharan Africa building solutions company, Lafarge Africa has launched a new fleet of 52 liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuelled trucks.
As a member of Holcin, a global leader in sustainable building solutions, Lafarge intends to work towards its commitment for affordable and clean energy.
In partnership with Ecologique, the new LNG-powered trucks will contribute far less carbon dioxide (CO2) to the environment than fuel oil (30% less) and coal (45% less). The focus on the increased utilisation of LNG has seen CO2 emissions being reduced globally and data from the Energy Information Administration has shown that, since 2006, increased use of natural gas has driven CO2 savings.
As companies the world over adopt cleaner fuels and ‘green’ policies, it’s becoming increasingly apparent that the properties of natural gas, such as the low environmental impact of its combustion, energy performance and its abundant global reserves.
