The technology group The Linde Group has signed a contract with BASF to construct a large hydrogen plant for their facility in Ludwigshafen, Germany and will be handling the basic and detail engineering and materials procurement for the project as well as installation and commissioning.
The turn-key hydrogen plant is scheduled to go into operation in mid-September 2009 and Dr Aldo Belloni, Member of the Executive Board of Linde AG, commented, “This project once again demonstrates our outstanding expertise and competitiveness in the area of hydrogen technology”
The efficient application of Linde process technologies results in an optimisation of operating costs and in addition, the plant significantly falls below many limits set by environmental protection regulations.
Linde already operates oxygen and ethylene production plants at the Ludwigshafen facility, but this is the first hydrogen plant that Linde supplies to BASF and furthermore, when the new plant goes into operation it will increase the facility’s total hydrogen capacity by 50,000 standard cubic metres (Nm³/h). The highly purified hydrogen will be fed into the BASF internal pipeline network.
