Linde continues its buying spree

German Linde continues its buying spree, this time around by purchasing the assets of a US specialty gases company Spectra Gases.

The European Commission cleared the deal, saying it would not cause antitrust problems. “The Commission concluded that the envisaged operation would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area or any substantial part of it,” the executive arm of the European Union said in a statement.

It continued: “The parties will continue to face effective competition from other big gas companies and entry from neighbouring markets is relatively easy.”

The likelihood of other gas producers moving into new sectors would prevent any attempt by the two to try and control the markets where they are the major players, the regulators said.
