Linde have announced that they are to build another Alpha Olefin Plant in South Africa.
Linde has been awarded a contract by Sasol Olefins and Surfactants for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction of another Alpha Olefin plant in Secunda, South Africa.
The plant is based on a new technology, converting 1-Heptene to the valuable 1-Octene product. This liquid hydrocarbon is used as chemical intermediate in the production of polymers, like polyethylene, fatty acids, detergent alcohol, plasticizer alcohols and lubrication oil additives.
The new plant with a product capacity of 100,000 tons per year is the sixth Alpha Olefin plant that Linde will be erecting within Sasol’s Secunda Complex, which is situated approximately 130 km east of Johannesburg. The plant is scheduled to be mechanically completed by mid April 2007.
