Linde secures major contract in Qatar

Linde has been awarded a contract by Qatar Shell GTL and Qatar Petroleum for the supply of eight huge air separation units for the Pearl Gas to Liquids project in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar.

Pearl GTL will be the largest integrated GTL complex in the world. Linde will supply Pearl GTL with the air separation units to produce oxygen capacity of around 860,000 cubic meters per hour. The required oxygen capacity for this world-scale project makes this the largest single contract ever placed for air separation units. Linde will perform the basic and detail engineering, the supply of equipment and materials, as well as erection and commissioning.

The Pearl GTL complex will use natural gas as feedstock to manufacture 140,000 barrels per day of liquid hydrocarbon products comprising naphtha, GTL fuel, normal paraffins, kerosene and lubricant base oils. The project will also produce approximately 120,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day of condensate, liquefied petroleum gas and ethane.

“The gas and engineering business of Linde is more and more enhanced by the energy markets. Hydrogen for refinery applications, LNG, coal or petrocoke gasification, oxygen for C02-free power generation and now gas to liquids, are all energy related development trends that we benefit from,” said Dr. Aldo Belloni, member of the executive board of Linde AG and responsible for the business segment Gas and Engineering.
