Linde to close world’s first fuel cell car sharing service

After just two years, The Linde Group has announced its hydrogen (H₂) car sharing service will come to an end this summer.

Launched by subsidiary Linde Hydrogen Concepts in the summer of 2016, BeeZero is the world’s first car sharing service which exclusively used H₂-powered fuel cell cars. Based in Munich, Germany, the BeeZero fleet comprises 50 Hyundai ix35 models.

A statement on BeeZero’s website explained the service has not been “economically viable” and it will cease to run on 30^th June.

The statement said, “BeeZero was launched to show that fuel cell vehicles are absolutely suitable for everyday use and to give you the opportunity to experience the emission-free H₂ mobility itself. Together with you we have achieved this – you’ve covered nearly 400,000 zero-emission kilometers, our vehicles traveled more than 850,000 hours with you and together, we saved almost 40,000 kg of carbon dioxide (CO₂). We are very proud of these results.”
