Linde to provide ‘most significant’ ever upgrade to Large Hadron Collider

Linde Engineering will supply and install cryogenic refrigeration system upgrades to CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator.

Located in Geneva, Switzerland, the LHC is a 27km long ring through which two high-energy particle beams are accelerated close to the speed of light before smashing into one another.

Designed to reproduce the conditions that existed within a billionth of a second of the Big Bang, the accelerator enables scientists to collide high-energy subatomic particles in a controlled environment and observe the interactions.
