Maine Beer Company starts brewing with carbon capture tech

Maine Beer Company has become one of the first craft breweries to capture waste carbon dioxide (CO2) produced during fermentation, purify it and then reuse it to carbonate its beer, purge its tanks and package its product.

The American-style ale producer is using Earthly Lab’s CiCi® carbon capture technology for its new processes – none of which impact the taste or look of the product.

A Chart Industries company, Earthly Labs works with over 100 breweries and distilleries worldwide that are looking to operate in a more sustainable way, as decarbonisation and CO2 shortages continue to be big talking points in the food and beverage sector.

Amy George, CEO of Earthly Labs, commented, “CO2 supply chains around the world continue to be challenged due to a turndown of existing production, and a transition to cleaner fuels. CO2 recovery solutions are and will continue to be essential to reducing risk and building a more sustainable brewery.”
