A deal has been signed at energy expo Gastech 2021 to develop digital twin technology as demand grows for large scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.
The agreement was signed between shipping giants Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), in addition to maritime classification company Lloyd’s Register (LR).
Supporting the development of HHI and KSOE’s Hyundai Intelligent Digital Twin Ship (HIDTS) for a type B gas containment tank suitable for a 174,000 cubic metre (CBM) LNG Carrier, LR will cover the life cycle of the technology from audit to verification and validation.
Speaking about the agreement, Luis Benito, Director of Innovation, Lloyd’s Register, said, “The Memorandum of Understanding will fast track digital twin technology solutions needed to help maritime successfully and safely digitalise.”
