Matheson Tri-Gas acquires Cedar Rapids

Matheson Tri-Gas Inc. (MTG) has successfully completed the purchase of Cedar Rapids Welding Supply Inc. (CRWS) of Cedar Rapids in Iowa, with the acquired company becoming a part of Linweld Inc. – a wholly own subsidiary of MTG.

CRWS opened its doors for business back in 1941 and has been owned and operated by the Ellis family since 1969. The company operates as a distributor for industrial, specialty, and medical gases along with providing retail sales of welding equipment, safety products, and supplies in eastern Iowa.

According to Steve Foster, Corporate Vice President of MTG, “The acquisition will truly benefit both organisations, Matheson Tri-Gas and Cedar Rapids Welding Supply. It will allow Matheson Tri-Gas/Linweld to expand its market into Eastern Iowa, while providing opportunities for both the customers and employees of Cedar Rapids Welding Supply.”

Matheson’s subsidiary Linweld would seem to affirm the excitement associated with the new acquisition, as President and COO Greg Vasek added, “We are very excited to include Cedar Rapid Welding Supply into the Matheson Tri-Gas/Linweld family. The timing of this could not be better for all involved with our new air separation plant located in Grimes, IA, scheduled to be completed in mid 2009.”
