McDermott wins contract for QatarEnergy LNG project

The State of Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity is set to skyrocket from 77 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 126 mtpa following QatarEnergy’s awarding of an engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract to energy industry solutions company McDermott Middle East (McDermott).

The contract concerns the offshore aspect of QatarEnergy’s North Field Expansion Project, which includes 13 normally unmanned wellhead platforms topsides, various connecting pipelines, beach valve stations and buildings. 

Commenting on the award, Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affair, President & CEO, QatarEnergy, said, “The award of this major EPCI contract is a momentous milestone that demonstrates QatarEnergy’s commitment to delivering our LNG expansion projects on time and to ensure the significant additional global LNG demand is catered for in a timely manner.” 

The contract comprises expansion opportunities for North Field East (NFE) and North Field South (NFS), with jackets and pipelines for NFS expected as a separate tender in the first half of 2022. LNG production is expected to begin in 2025.
