Medical benefits of oxygen promoted

The potential use of oxygen for the treatment of a number of ailments, through Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, will be highlighted in October by a US doctor as he gives a 60 minute presentation.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy involves the medical use of oxygen at a higher than atmospheric pressure and while it had historically been used in the treatment of decompression sickness resulting from nitrogen gas bubbles forming in the blood, it has been shown to be beneficial in treating such conditions as strokes, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Down’s Syndrome and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Dr John Pittman, of the Carolina Centre for Integrative Medicine will present ‘An Introduction to Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy’ on 9th October, discussing how the oxygen therapy is being used in the treatment of chronic viral infections and other serious diseases.

Pittman commented, “Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has been around since the middle of the 17th century, yet people still view this as a futuristic treatment. The medical community is really in the early stages of realising the potential effects that this therapy has on many chronic ailments. It’s an exciting time.”
