Messer will invest approximately $50m in a new air separation unit (ASU) located in McGregor, Texas, that will be powered by an onsite solar panel array.
Marking the firm’s first plant to be powered be a co-located renewable energy source, the site will produce gases to support a variety of industries including aerospace, chemical, electronics, food and beverage as well as healthcare, metals and oil and gas.
The site is set for completion in the second quarter of 2024, when it will showcase exactly what can be achieved with renewable energies in the industrial gases space.
