Messer’s ‘new reference’ in reactor cooling

Yesterday, the largest privately run industrial gas company, Messer announced plans to install a reactor cooling unit at LANXESS Deutschland AG.

The Cryocontrol unit, which uses cryogenic liquid nitrogen as a coolant, will be used for rubber related research and development at the Dormagen site.

In a corporate press statement, Messer highlighted the importance of the installation when it noted that the device offers, “a new reference” in the field of reactor cooling.

Indeed, reactor cooling is a growth sector, particularly in modern pharmaceutical and fine chemical production where very low process temperatures are often required. These low temperatures help to ensure targeted control of synthesis steps or to increase product yield. Temperature requirements as low as -100°C are not unusual. The Cryocontrol process uses cryogenic liquid nitrogen to produce these low temperatures.
