Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group and its engineering company, MHI Engineering, have undertaken a study into the feasibility of capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the aluminium smelting process at a plant operated by Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C (Alba), a major Bahrain-based aluminium producer.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the companies on March 28th will see MHIENG applying its KM CDR Process carbon capture technology – jointly developed with Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (KEPCO) – to the Alba plant.
