MHIENG supplies carbon capture tech to Italy

Group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), MHI Engineering, Ltd. (MHIENG) will license its proprietary KM CDR Process carbon capture technology and the process design package (PDP) to Italy’s first carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) project.

Developed by Italian energy company Eni S.p.A (Eni), phase 1 of the project aims to capture around 25,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year from the turbo compressor exhaust at Eni’s natural gas plant in Ravenna, Northeast Italy.

Having already been deployed at 13 facilities around the world, MHIENG’s KM CDR Process technology uses the KS-1 solvent to capture CO2 contained in flue gas and will be provided through green chemistry firm NextChem S.p.A.

The project serves to help MHI Group develop a ‘CO2 ecosystem’ as part of its energy transition goals, in addition to accelerating Italy’s carbon neutral goals.
