BMW of North America and NASA have announced the successful completion of an 8 week testing programme of the BMW Hydrogen 7 model vehicle, reflecting the shared commitment to advancing hydrogen technologies and exploration of innovative transportation and alternative energy concepts.
During the test period, which was initiated under a Space Act Agreement between NASA and BMW, the US aeronautics and space administration agency personnel had full access to the fleet of BMW Hydrogen 7’s , which run on a similar form of liquid hydrogen to that used in space shuttles.
Karl-Heinze Ziwica, vice president of Engineering at BMW of North America, commented, $quot;We are very proud to have been able to offer this test period of the BMW Hydrogen 7 to NASA, with whom we share a unique common goal: the use and ongoing research of liquid hydrogen solutions.$quot;
The vehicles feature a dual combustion engine capable of running on liquid hydrogen or gasoline and seamless shifting between the two, with the top speed of the Hydrogen 7 standing at 143mph and acceleration of 0-60mph in just 9.2 seconds.
