NEL and GREENSTAT combine to develop Norway’s H2 production facilities based on hydropower

NEL ASA, an alkaline electrolyser technology specialist, has entered into a partnership agreement with renewable energy expert, GREENSTAT ASA, to develop hydrogen (H2) production facilities in Norway.

The agreement will develop both large and small-scale H2 production facilities across the Scandinavian country based on renewable energy, such as hydro, wind, wave and tidal and solar power.

The long-term target for the partners is to construct a number of H2 production facilities which utilise low-cost hydropower. This new arrangement seeks to serve a range of different markets, such as the transport and export sectors, as well as in the industrial industry to replace coal or other chemical components, so as to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

We look forward to growing this partnership, continuing to develop H2 production facilities in Norway, and eventually expanding to the international market

Jon André Løkke, CEO of NEL, stated, “Under this agreement, the partners will work together to develop new H2 projects, where NEL will deliver its leading electrolyser technology, in addition to service and maintenance. GREENSTAT will become the owner and operator, and supply green H2 to the end-customer.”
