New CCS process offers lower cost solutions

A consortium of academic and industrial parties led by new start-up PMW Technology is embarking on a twelve-month study of a significant new carbon capture process.

The initiative was launched at the UK CCS Research Centre’s biannual conference in Sheffield on Monday 11th September.

Carbon capture has been found by BEIS and ETI to be one of the few feasible options for decarbonisation in many industries. Unfortunately, current processes can increase industrial costs significantly, add complexity or introduce environmental risks.

Dr. Bryony Livesey, Head of Research and Technology at Costain said, “The new A3C process freezes out the carbon dioxide, avoiding hazardous chemicals. Our study aims to demonstrate that this simple concept offers lower energy consumption and reduced decarbonisation costs in industrial-scale applications.”
