New Fortress to build LNG terminal off Colombo

To support Sri Lanka’s transition to ‘cleaner fuels’ New Fortress Energy is to build a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal off the coast of the country’s capital city, Colombo.

The terminal will support the receiving, storage and regasification of natural gas and the company intends to provide the equivalent of around 1.2 million gallons of LNG per day.

Recognising the development as a ‘significant milestone’ for Sri Lanka’s adoption of cleaner fuels, Wes Edens, Chairman, CEO, New Fortress Energy, said, “We are pleased to partner with Sri Lanka by investing in modern energy infrastructure that will support sustainable economic development and environmental gains.”

The LNG terminal is set to begin operations in 2023.
