New test facility to showcase e-fuel technologies

With e-fuels such as e-methane, e-kerosene, and e-methanol offering a way to replace conventional fossil fuels in existing internal combustion engines, Power-to-Liquids technologies are seeing increased investment on the way to scaling up commercialisation.

A new agreement between research institution VTT and renewable fuels company Neste will see the partners working together to build a technology demonstration facility at VTT Bioruukki Pilot Centre in Espoo, Finland.

The facility will showcase the use of high-temperature electrolysis and fuel synthesis to develop technology that uses carbon dioxide (CO2) capture from flue gas and hydrogen production.

“Neste as the world’s leading producer of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel refined from waste and residues sees Power-to-Liquids as a possible complementing technology for future sustainable fuel production,” commented Lars Peter Lindfors, Senior Vice President Innovation, Neste.
