New test flow loop to aid Denmark’s energy transition

A new Test Flow Loop facility has been opened by Welltec in Esbjerg, Denmark, to provide corrosion testing for carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects.

By replicating extreme environmental conditions, the system is intended to stress-test specific materials for durability and wear resistance for their intended use, such as when storing carbon dioxide (CO2) in a subsoil reservoir.

Having been deemed a technology essential to reaching Net Zero targets by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), CCS is set to play a vital role in Denmark’s energy transition.

“The whole world is grappling with the energy transition and there is no doubt that CO2 storage is part of the solution to the challenges we face,” commented Lia Khasanova, Commercial Director for New Energy and Climate Technology, Welltec.
