Newly launched GE gas turbines set to run on hydrogen

GE’s brand-new 7HA.03 gas turbines could soon be powered by hydrogen in the US state of Florida; the electricity utility firm has confirmed.

Hydrogen hopes for the turbines come as GE celebrates the start of commercial operation for the world’s first 7HA.03 turbines at the Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) Dania Beach Clean Energy Centre.

News of the installation means the approximately 1,260MW centre is now just being powered by two gas turbines, which could soon use hydrogen as a fuel.

gasworld understands the turbines have the capability to burn up to 50% by volume of hydrogen when blended with natural gas, resulting in cleaner and greener power.
