Land has still not been granted for the construction of a UN backed research and development center for the International Center for Hydrogen Energy Technologies (ICHET) say Turkish papers.
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) had chosen Turkey as the center of the project on condition that the facility would be constructed in five years. There are now fears that since only a year remains until the deadline, the U.N. may now give the project to another country that offers better conditions.
The president of the International Association for Hydrogen Energy (IAHE), professor Nejat Veziroğlu spent three years in Turkey away from his duties in Miami University in order to oversee the construction of the research center. He said, $quot;I wanted to begin the construction of the campus before leaving. We cannot get over bureaucracy. Earlier on they have proposed a land in Sarıyer. We have prepared our projects and waited for an answer, none came for a year. Then they offered another piece of land in Alibeyköy. We agreed again. Then it turned out that it belonged to the National Defense Ministry.$quot;
