Nucor unveils ASU plans in South Carolina

Nucor Corporation will construct a new air separation unit (ASU) at its steel sheet and beam mill in South Carolina as part of a $200m modernisation project.

Part of a five-year plan, the steel mill development will see the on-site supply industrial gases for the mill’s steelmaking operations.

It is thought the modernisation project will be carried out over a five-year period.

Mike Lee, Vice-President and General Manager of Nucor Steel Berkeley, said, “Nucor acquired UIG in 2019 so that we would have the capability to build and operate our own air separation units, giving us an alternative to long term service contracts with outside providers.”
