Japanese shipping giant Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) Line will deliver four new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers under a long-term time-charter contract to Russian NOVATEK Gas & Power Asia Pte. Ltd., subsidiary of PAO NOVATEK.
Each ship will be fitted with dual-fuel diesel engines capable of operating off boil-off gas stored in the cargo tank, in addition to an onboard re-liquefaction unit that can use liquefied excess boil-off gas before returning it to the cargo tank.
Boil-off rate will be reduced during LNG transportation via the advanced insulating materials built into the vessel’s 174,000 cubic metre capacity membrane-type tank.
Due to be delivered from 2023 to 2024, the vessels are being constructed in accordance with NYK’s ‘Staying Ahead 2022 with Digitalisation and Green’ medium-term plan.
