Order delays the reason behind job cuts

A delay in orders for the massive heat exchanger units made at Air Products and Chemicals’ Hanover Township plant is the reason behind job cuts at the branch since early 2007.

Approximately 65 people have been laid off at the company’s local operation since February, according to spokesman Art George, which has reduced the workforce by almost one quarter. The reductions have been unavoidable and the good news is that no further lay-offs are expected for the remainder of 2007 and the company is hopeful it will be able to recall many of the workers next year too.

George commented, “It’s been gradual. We’ve had an unexpected delay in new orders. We’re working our way through that.”

Air Products expanded its local operation 2 years ago and currently has around 230 people who remain working at the plant.
