Following increased gas demand from the domestic and industrial sectors in Pakistan, the country will add ‘significant’ liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification capacity additions in Asia between 2021 and 2025.
According to a report by data and analytics company GlobalData, Pakistan is set to contribute around 11% of the region’s total capacity additions by 2025, equating to 1,752 billion cubic feet (bcf). Most of the capacity – 1,697 bcf – will comprise of new-build terminals.
The largest single project, with a capacity of 438 bcf, is the Port Qasim terminal.
“Several upcoming LNG terminals in Pakistan are proposed in Port Qasim as it is conveniently located nearer to major international shipping routes for easy imports of LNG,” said Teja Pappoppula, Oil and Gas Analyst, GlobalData.
