Poland-Slovakia gas interconnector to launch in October

The commercial launch of a new interconnector between Poland and Slovakia is scheduled for October following completion of its construction.

The 164km pipeline – which has a diameter of DN 1000 – will enable gas transmission of 5.7 bcm per year to Poland and 4.7 bcm annually to Slovakia.

The gas pipeline measures 61.3km on the Polish side (Strachocina−Polish border) and 103km on the Slovakian side, ending at the gas compressor station Veľké Kapušany.

With this gas connection, Poland will gain infrastructural access to gas sources located in Southern Europe, North Africa and the Caucasus, while Slovakia and other countries in the CEE will gain access to gas from the Baltic Pipe (Norwegian shelf), LNG Terminal in Świnoujście, and LNG Terminal in Klaipėda.
