Power-to-X partnership hits green ammonia milestone

A Denmark-based partnership comprising Topsoe, Skovgaard Energy, and Vestas has begun construction of a demonstration plant to produce green ammonia in Lemvig, Denmark.

The project will showcase how renewable power can be integrated directly to the plant while considering the fluctuations in power production, in addition to demonstrating a cost-effective way of producing green ammonia.

Located in Ramme near Lemvig, Western Jutland, Denmark, the plant will produce more than 5,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year, preventing 8,200 tonnes of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere annually.

As a low carbon fuel and fertiliser, green ammonia could aid in the reduction of CO2 emissions associated with fossil-based ammonia production and shipping fuel.
