Praxair patent-pending oxygen-enhanced low-nitrous oxide (NOx) combustion system has reduced NOx emissions by 40%-45% on Glatfelter’s pulverised coal industrial boilers in Spring Grove, Penn.
The system, slated for operation throughout the 2005 ozone season, exceeded performance guarantees within the initial weeks of start-up. Construction began in April 2005 and operation commenced in June 2005.
Praxair’s advanced combustion system enhances the boiler’s combustion efficiency and dramatically reduces the formation and emissions of NOx, which contribute to smog and acid rain. Praxair’s proven oxygen-enhanced combustion technology was co-funded by the Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory and Praxair, Inc.
