Following a €45m investment, Air Liquide has started operations at its new hydrogen production site in Priolo Gargallo, Italy.
The unit, which is located within the ERG Group’s Erg Med refinery, will supply hydrogen for the next 15 years to the refinery and to multi-national US oil and petrochemical firm, ExxonMobil’s refinery.
According to the French industrial gases company, the unit will produce over 220m m3 of pure hydrogen per year and the hydrogen will be used in the hydroconversion plant to reduce the amount of sulphur in the gasoline and diesel produced at these refineries.
