South Africa-based helium and natural gas producer Renergen has announced the start up of operations at its Virgina Gas Project, a move that will see the company transition to the production liquid hydrocarbons and – in due course – liquid helium.
The facility marks South Africa’s first foray into the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Having begun filling bulk storage tanks for delivery to customers, the company now plans to ramp up to Phase 1 capacity in the coming months.
“This is a significant step on the path to showing the world that Renergen can become a global player in liquid helium supply and a material local supplier of much needed LNG,” stated Stefano Marani, CEO, Renergen.
