Royal Mail pledges net zero emission target by 2040

UK postal services provider Royal Mail has today (6th June) published its ‘Steps to Zero’ plan, a four-step journey that aims to reduce the organisation’s emissions to net zero by 2040.

Under its long-term plan, the Royal Mail is looking to lower its carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions from 205g per parcel to 50g per parcel. 

As well as reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 25% by 2025-2026, it also aims to reduce Scope 3 emissions by 25% between 202-21 and 2030, for which it has applied for independent verification from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). 

In addition to adopting renewable electricity at many of its sites, the organisation is also switching to low emission or zero emission vehicles such as EV’s and biogas-powered trucks.
