In less than five years since its start up, a carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility owned by Shell Canada has captured and safely stored five million tonnes of CO2, the Royal Dutch Shell subsidiary said.
To put it into perspective, five million tonnes of CO2 is equal to the annual emissions from about 1.25 million cars.
The energy giant claims that Quest is the “world’s first commercial-scale CCS facility applied to oil sands operations”.
