SLNS Shakthi heads to India for Sri Lankan medical oxygen shipment

Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Shakthi is bound for the Port of Chennai, India to take delivery of medical grade oxygen after placing an order with the Indian government.

The ship left Trincomalee harbour, north-eastern Sri Lanka, this morning (17th August 2021) and will take delivery of the oxygen to maintain existing stocks for the treatment of Covid-19 patients in hospitals across the island.

The President of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa directed the Sri Lankan Navy to make transport arrangements for the oxygen to avoid any possible port delays when bringing back the shipment.

Due to arrive in Chennai by tomorrow evening (18th August 2021), the Navy ship will continue its regular service following delivery of the medical oxygen.
